What is overclocking?

Overclocking is basically a set of well-known mechanisms that apply to your machine for better performance. Some argues that after overclocking their machines, increases overall system performance by nearly 30% to 50%. Overclocking procedures usually can be applied to many components in a computer system, including motherboard, CPU cards, memory and graphics. In most cases, overclocking a component affects others. Therefore, the overclocking is not an easy task, but when done successfully, the results are very encouraging.

Overclocking is risky if when overclock a component of your computer, power to operate at speeds above its range. This leads, as discussed below, the temperature rise. If refrigeration is not available appropriate for these components, the system becomes unstable and some components can be damaged completely. overclocking just generally do not require any additional device. However, if you're willing to overclock your device too, need to add a practical cooling device that keeps the system stable.
Is overclocking really worth it?

Overclocking allows you to save considerable amounts of money while earning a great performance. Why buy a P4 2.2 GHz while you can buy a P4 running at 2.0 GHz and 2.2 GHz you want without extra money? You can even overclock your old 1.6 GHz chip running at 2.0 GHz or 2.2 GHz with other cooling solutions that are relatively inexpensive. The trick is to buy the components that support overclocking. The Most motherboards today have this feature available, but some still do not. If your motherboard supports overclocking, you can squeeze a little extra speed that before considering buying a new one.

How overclocking working?

To understand how overclocking, you should know that all system components are controlled by a single master clock. 32-bit systems, this watch is provided by the motherboard FSB (Front Side Bus). Each component comes with its own multiplier / divider can operate a multiple or fraction FSB speed. Some items may be "blocked." This means that their values of multiplier / divider can not be changed. In addition, motherboards modern, such as AGP or PCI bus speed controllers are independent. This allows them to operate independently of the FSB.

We conclude that one of the components a speed of 32 bits is determined by:

= Velocity component FSB * Multiplier

For 64-bit systems, the idea is more or less the same terminology is a little different.
Overclocking is done simply by manipulating the FSB and clock multiplier for different values / dividers (if not blocked) for the overall balance of the components. Most people want to overclock the processor, since it is the performance bottleneck. This introduces interdependence between the speed of the speed of the CPU and motherboard and memory. Therefore, adjust the speed of the motherboard, processor and memory is quite the heart of overclocking. This can be done by reconfiguring the BIOS – the firmware that came with your motherboard.

It's not all. Changing clock speeds must change the operating voltages of several components. Temperature increases linearly with the increase of hours, but increases exponentially with increasing stress. If you are lucky, that little can overclock your system without changing the voltage. The highest levels of overclocking will increase tensions and temperature and will need to use other cooling systems.

Usually, before starting the overclocking processor, you must determine two things:

1 – Is your CPU locked?
All Intel processors are already locked – Multiplier values can not be changed. All 64-bit processors from AMD are unlocked while some 32-bit AMD processors are blocked and others not.
Remember that if the CPU is locked, allowing you to change the FSB clock speed can not adjust the speed of other components. If open, which gives much more flexibility.

2 – What is your motherboard chipset?
Your motherboard chipset determines how the memory depends on the speed of the motherboard. It also determines whether you will be able to change the operation of the chipset voltages.
Once you know the answer to both questions, you are ready to dig deeper to find all the specific details of the equipment needed for overclocking.
